Suppression of thermal nanoplasma emission in clusters strongly ionized by hard x-rays

چکیده

Abstract Using electron and ion spectroscopy, we studied the nuclear dynamics in ∼50 000-atom large krypton clusters, following excitation with an intense hard x-ray pulse. Beyond single pulse experiment, also present results of a time-resolved, pump–near-infrared probe measurement that allows one to learn about time evolution system. After core ionization atoms by photons, trapped Auger secondary electrons form nanoplasma which ions are embedded, according already published scenario. While data show expected features, emission spectra miss pump–probe delay-dependent enhancement except for slight energy range below 2 eV. Theoretical simulations help reveal that, due deep trapping potential during long expansion accompanied electron–ion recombination, thermal from transient becomes quenched.

Nanoplasma Formation by High Intensity Hard X-rays

Using electron spectroscopy, we have investigated nanoplasma formation from noble gas clusters exposed to high-intensity hard-x-ray pulses at ~5 keV. Our experiment was carried out at the SPring-8 Angstrom Compact free electron LAser (SACLA) facility in Japan. Dedicated theoretical simulations were performed with the molecular dynamics tool XMDYN. We found that in this unprecedented wavelength ...

Cosmic Rays and Non-Thermal Emission in Galaxy Clusters

We discuss the origin of thermal and nonthermal phenomena in galaxy clusters. Specifically, we present some expectations for the non-thermal emission (from radio to gamma ray wavelenghts) expected in a model in which secondary electrons are produced via pp collisions in the intracluster medium. We also discuss the possibility to test this cosmic ray model in the light of recent data on radio ha...

Cosmic Rays, Radio Halos and Non-Thermal X-ray Emission in Clusters of Galaxies

We calculate the flux of radio, hard X-ray and UV radiation from clusters of galaxies as produced by synchrotron emission and Inverse Compton Scattering of electrons generated as secondaries in cosmic ray interactions in the intracluster medium. Both the spatial distribution of cosmic rays due to their diffusion and the spatial distribution of the intracluster gas are taken into account. Our ca...

Preflare Nonthermal Emission Observed in Microwaves and Hard X-Rays

We present a detailed examination on nonthermal emissions during the preflare phase of the X4.8 flare that occurred on 2002 July 23. The microwave (17GHz and 34GHz) data obtained with the Nobeyama Radioheliograph at Nobeyama Solar Radio Observatory and the hard X-ray data taken with the Reuven Ramaty High Energy Solar Spectroscopic Imager obviously showed nonthermal features in the preflare pha...
